Big Brothers Big Sisters is the largest youth mentoring service in the country. It has been bringing caring, positive mentors into the lives of Mid-Florida’s children for over 30 years.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Florida matches volunteers from the local community with children. Then it continues to provide support throughout the life of the match relationship. It is associated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and shares in a federation of over 500 local agencies across the county.

Kids need an older role model, someone in addition to parents and friends, who can share life experiences and help guide them in the right direction. Research has proven that having a Big Brother or Big Sister helps children avoid drug use and alcohol abuse, do better in school, get along better with others, and gain confidence in themselves.

Big Brothers Big Sisters’ professionally trained staff members screen all applicants thoroughly before matching them with children. Consistent agency support is given to the mentor, child, and child’s parent or guardian. Being a Little means listening to and learning from a “Big” Brother or “Big” Sister, but most of all, it means having a friend to hang out with and have fun with.
